Botanical Name: Simmondsia chinensis
Botany and Origins: The jojoba plant was first recorded by British botanist HF Link in 1822, when he landed at Baja California in Northern Mexico and observed the wild shrub in its natural context. Link named the plant Simmondsia chinensis, after a fellow British botanist and explorer, TW Simmonds.
Method of Extraction: Jojoba oil is extracted via cold expression from the seeds.
Cultivation: Conventional
Uses: Jojoba oil (pronounced as ho-ho-ba) is unique because the oil is not composed of fat but of liquid wax. In scientific terms, waxes are esters of long chain fatty acids with long chain monohydroxyl alcohols, whereas fats are esters of long chain fatty acids with glycerine. Being composed of mostly wax esters, it means that there is very little likelihood of deterioration of the oil. It is ideal for use in cosmetics because of its molecular stability and its natural moisturising and healing properties. Jojoba's resistance to oxidation means that it does not require additional chemical preservatives. It is suitable for all skin types, whether dry, oily or sensitive. When applied to the scalp as a treatment, jojoba oil acts to regulate and remove the sebum layer. Research also indicates that jojoba oil is beneficial in the treatment of certain dry scalp and skin problems such as psoriasis and eczema. The oil is an excellent emollient for the skin, rendering it soft and smooth.

How to use
Carrier oils are the foundation of aromatherapy and natural skincare. They nourish, protect, and help deliver the benefits of essential oils safely to your skin.
1. For Facial Care
Apply a few drops of your chosen carrier oil to clean, damp skin. Massage gently until fully absorbed. You may use it alone or as a base to dilute essential oils (typically 1–2 drops of essential oil per 5 mL of carrier oil).
2. For Body Massage
Blend 5–10 drops of essential oil into 15–20 mL of carrier oil. Warm the oil slightly between your palms before massaging into the skin to ease tension and promote relaxation.
3. For Body Moisturising
Smooth a small amount over damp skin after showering to lock in moisture and soften the skin naturally.
4. For Bath Rituals
Mix 1 tablespoon of carrier oil with your preferred essential oils, then add the blend to warm bath water. Swirl to disperse before stepping in.
