Botanical Name: Oenothera biennis

Botany and Origins: The evening primrose is a tall, spiky plant that blooms only in the evening, hence its common name. The North American Indian medicine men were the first to recognise its potential as a healing agent and used to brew the seed pods to make an infusion for healing wounds.

Method of Extraction: The oil is extracted out from the seeds.

Cultivation: Certified Organic

Uses: Evening primrose oil is rich in fatty acids, one in particular, GLA. The GLA found in evening primrose oil is biologically important as it affects much of the enzyme activity in the body. Every process that takes place in the body is triggered by the action of various enzymes, including the production of prostaglandins. These hormones like substances regulate bodily functions. The GLA found in evening primrose oil is a more efficient precursor of arachidonic acid than the linoleic acid found in sunflower seed oil. Studies in evening primrose oil have found that it may be beneficial for improving certain kind of eczema, improving the condition of the hair, nails and skin, relieving premenstrual tension, reducing the production of cholesterol, enabling insulin to work more effectively and preventing inflammation and controlling arthritis. When use in a massage oil, it has been found to be effective for the treatment of eczema and psoriasis, premenstrual tension, rheumatoid arthritis and weight reduction.

    How to use

Carrier oils are the foundation of aromatherapy and natural skincare. They nourish, protect, and help deliver the benefits of essential oils safely to your skin.

    1. For Facial Care
Apply a few drops of your chosen carrier oil to clean, damp skin. Massage gently until fully absorbed. You may use it alone or as a base to dilute essential oils (typically 1–2 drops of essential oil per 5 mL of carrier oil).

    2. For Body Massage
Blend 5–10 drops of essential oil into 15–20 mL of carrier oil. Warm the oil slightly between your palms before massaging into the skin to ease tension and promote relaxation.

    3. For Body Moisturising
Smooth a small amount over damp skin after showering to lock in moisture and soften the skin naturally.

    4. For Bath Rituals
Mix 1 tablespoon of carrier oil with your preferred essential oils, then add the blend to warm bath water. Swirl to disperse before stepping in.
